Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attacks Octopus Paul - Telegraph:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian leader, says Paul the Octopus, the sea creature that correctly predicted the outcome of World Cup games, is a symbol of all that is wrong with the western world.

He claims that the octopus is a symbol of decadence and decay among “his enemies”.

Paul, who lives at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre, in Germany, won the hearts of the Spanish by predicting their World Cup victory.

He became an international star after predicting the outcome of all seven German World Cup matches accurately.

However, the Iranian president accused the octopus of spreading “western propaganda and superstition.” Paul was mentioned by Mr Ahmadinejad on various occasions during a speech in Tehran at the weekend.

“Those who believe in this type of thing cannot be the leaders of the global nations that aspire, like Iran, to human perfection, basing themselves in the love of all sacred values,” he said.

One week apart and all the embarrassing habits I had hidden all summer come out in full force. Watching marathons of Jersey Shore sandwiched between way too many episodes of iCarly. Eating pickle slices straight from the jar. Sticking my finger in the cupcake frosting. Not shaving my legs. Dancing to the Glee soundtrack (and maybe the Rent soundtrack… okay, Phantom of the Opera too.) Wearing yoga pants all day. And the comfortable underwear. Oh yes, the comfortable underwear.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy all of this.

(But I still wish he were here.)

So I decided now that the boy is gone (to Georgia for training, for the time being) and I am lonely and sad and college is over and I have all this free time and I’m somehow in my third consecutive long distance relationship (ridiculous)…

I need a hobby. (Besides, you know, reading and tumbling.)

I considered channeling Julia Nunes and playing ukulele. Or Bob Ross and painting (lots of happy trees, of course). Or maybe doing the Martha Stewart thing and getting all crafty on you guys.

But instead I’ve decided to be like my favorite tumblr-er Tara Marie & take up baking. (& eventually cooking, but I’ll get to that another day.) I figure this is a hobby that lots of other people can enjoy, as I really like the process, but hate the “eating what I bake” part (again, ridiculous, I know)…

So far I’ve perfected my chocolate chip cookie recipe, my brownie recipe, & lots of associated variations, but I need to find some great new recipes.

So what are your favorite baking recipes? Or baking blogs?

This secretly goes through my head almost every time the Boy talks about going to Afghanistan.

I understand there are pros and cons of putting your life out there for people to see. I knew that when I started blogging. And while we weren’t exactly Jakob & Julia, both having and ending a relationship “in public” was a challenge I didn’t expect.

So I hope you, and all the other anonymous & not-so-anonymous questioners, will understand: you will never get so much as a tweet from me regarding what happened between me and Soup. We didn’t talk about it when it ended months ago and I’m sure I speak for both of us when I say we’re not going to talk about it now.

All anyone needs to know is that we’ve both happily moved on, but I’m sure that’s clear for anyone who reads this blog, or his blog, to see. : )
